Seventh Grade

When I first arrived in August, I expected another year where they tell you it’s going to be really hard, but it’s actually not. But I soon realized that all those rumors where true, seventh grade is terrible! By October my grades where dropping and so where my hours of sleep. Eventually I figured out there was no hope.

In seventh grade I learned… To accept a “B,” waiting to eat lunch until 12:04 is impossible, and sleeping before ten is as rare as riding a unicorn. If I had to do it again I would move to Antarctica. My advice for next years seventh graders… RUN.

Leadership

“We are the smartest and therefore should be the leaders,” thats what the pigs in the book “Animal Farm” said. But is it true? If someone can be smart while being good natured, generous, and honest, then they should be leader. Why isn’t being smart enough?

Someone can be intelligent, but that doesn’t mean that they would be good in leadership. Responding well under pressure has nothing to do with being smart.

Smart can be sly, not everyone uses their brains for good. You must be smart to come up with sly plans that make you seem good when you’re really not. Some leaders cease to see that just because they are in power does not mean they are above everyone else. Napoleon, the pig, displayed his image as the all-time hero when really he was living luxuriously while the rest of the animals where on the brink of starvation.

A Poem I Like

The Sound Of Laughter

The sound of laughter is a thing of beauty for laughter spreads the very gift of joy
That people they are drawn to happy people is not that hard for to understand why
Since everybody wishes to be happy and laughter it spreads happiness around
And only the heartless could not like the sound of laughter for laughter is a very happy sound,
Than laughter there is no more happy feeling laugh and the World laughs with you seems so true
But if you feel sad and for yourself feeling sorry the saddest person in the World is you
Even your friends would rather not be with you if they see you as one who worship gloom
The happy people attract people to them and in their presence happiness does bloom,
The sound of laughter sends out laughter ripples it is a sound one always loves to hear
And laughter it gives rise to smiling faces and never fails to fill the cup of cheer
The sad one who feels comfort in self pity is the one others do not wish to know
But if you are one who laughs away your worries your friends in numbers seem to grow and grow
And who could not but love the sound of laughter to it there always is a joyful ring
It seems to send happiness out in ripples it is a joyful and infectious thing.

Francis Duggan

I like this poem because I agree, laughter makes any day a better one. I love that feeling I get after a really good laugh, it makes me feel like I could never be sad again. Who would want to pout when they could be laughing their heads off? Not me! If you still aren’t convinced to laugh every time you think you’re going to cry; allow me to tell you, it has been proven that laughing gives you a workout, and therefore makes you live longer. What are you waiting for? Go find something funny, and spread happiness!

Challenge Weeks Four and Five: Media and a Memory

When I was little I just couldn’t do without my “Bratz” dolls. They were the main occupant of my time. Every day I would come home from school to rush upstairs and create a story through my precious dolls. One day, my Bratz dolls would battle stuffed animals, the next they were onstage as pop-stars. It was the most fun I had ever gotten out of any of my toys.

My precious dolls had the long princess-like hair that every little girl dreamed of having. They displayed flawless makeup in the exuberant colors my six-year-old self loved.

While I had my dolls I became part of a whole new world where I was never alone, or in lack of excitement. That’s why sometimes I would feel like a doll myself. I remember once I snuck into my mom’s room, and when I came out I had covered my face with makeup, claiming that now I looked just like my dolls.

Without my dolls I wasn’t a pop-star, actress, or a famous athlete. My Bratz dolls gave me a second world that perfected each and every day.

This is Yasmin, who was my favorite of the Bratz dolls.

The Lair of The Forgotten

One lone candle illuminated the vast darkness, the darkness that brings sorrow-not fear. There is no red dripping from the walls, but the Phantom is red with anger and green with envy. “How is it I am the one who is shunned, why must I pay for sins that are not my own?” The Phantom sits alone pondering this very thought, for he has no other distractions, he has no companions. Beyond the empty lake, black with despair. Beyond the throne for a king ruling a land of one. Lies The Phantom’s only consolation:

His organ, where he composes his beautiful creations. Pages and pages, more and more pages, filled with music that has the composers full attention. The phantom can pour his heart into “The Music of The Night,” the music the words of which he believes with all his might.

The Phantom is no angel though. As he paces in his lair he is plotting revenge, revenge so bitter one would rather visit his lair. His lair…

The light is so scarce coming from only one source, one candle, one ruby red candle, the flame flickering, dancing, then suddenly leaping into the air. Shadows move across the room with minds of their own. Follow one and it may lead you out to the lake. The Phantom’s lair is separated from the outside world by the inky unfathomable lake. Dare to cross the lake and you will eventually reach the throne, although it isn’t built on bones there is an aura around the throne that ensures no one gets near.

Take my advice and run, run, run out of the lair while you still can. Run past the shattered mirror, and the collapsed stairs. Run away before The Phantom puts you in a musically administered trance. The Phantom may be alone, but, “the true distortion lies in his soul.”

Week 3: Top 5 Apps

Is your apple device getting boring? Are your apps struggling to hold your attention? Not to worry! I have put together the five best apps off all time! You are one step away from never being bored again!

1) Snapchat- Never has an app pushed you to embarrass yourself more. Snapchat allows you to text through pictures you take. I like Snapchat because people send so many funny, random pictures. Whether your someplace cool, or just bored at home: Snapchat is an easy way to tell your friends just that.

2) Vine- Who knew someone could provide you with so much entertainment in just seven seconds? Vine is a social media app where you post seven second loop videos. My favorite part about vine however is watching all the hilarious videos that other people post. Get creative and see what you can do in seven seconds!

3) Netflix- BEWARE: ADDICTION FOLLOWS
Watching your favorite shows and becoming addicted to new ones has never been easier. Which can be a bad thing… But let’s not worry about that. Netflix is always there. Movie night and you can’t find anything to watch? Netflix. Want to start a series, but it’s been out for a while? Netflix.

4) Candy Crush- It may seem boring in the first couple of levels, but Candy Crush is the only game that has held my attention for this long. Candy Crush is kind of like “Bejeweled,” with a twist. Want to know what I mean, download it and see for yourself – you won’t regret it! My main goal: find out what happens when the end of the game board is reached.

5) Wanelo- Shoppers beware: Wanelo is an app where you can browse all kinds of products in just one place. Depending on who you follow you will be showed items that are just your taste. When you find something you like the app can send you to the website, or you can save it to collection. I love Wanelo because there are so many unique finds.

With these five extraordinary apps you will always have something to do. Whether you’re sending embarrassing photos, creating loop videos, watching shows and movies, crushing candy, or finding items just for you: I ensure you will never be that you will never be bored again!

Week 2: Some Time Outside In Austin

From a trail by the lake, to swimming in a natural spring, shopping amongst skyscrapers, visiting a nature center, or playing in a park…Downtown Austin has it all. Downtown Austin is my favorite outdoor place in Austin, because it has it all.

Sixty eight degrees year round seems chilly, but in the summer Barton Springs is the best place to cool off. A natural spring above Edwards Aquifer is the scientific part of Barton springs, but what really makes so unique goes so much further. My favorite part of Barton Springs is that it is filled with fish! When a kid lets out an excited yelp, swim on over, they probably caught one of the many various fish that call Barton Springs home. Barton springs is a unique place that you cannot miss if you come to Austin.

A trail that can be pursued through land or water—that’s Lady Bird Lake! Over ten miles of flat terrain that can be walked, biked, or run. Lady Bird Lake trail is right by, what other than… Lady Bird Lake! So if you ever get hot while on the trail just stop by one of the many canoe or kayak rentals, and finish the day on the water! I love the Lady Bird Lake Trail because of its beautiful nature and versatility.

Downtown Austin also has Zilker Park, home to the kite festival. The Nature and Science center, also an attraction of Austin, is where injured animals can find a new home and provide a learning experience for us (humans). Then there is Downtown itself, taking a stroll amongst skyscrapers at breathtaking heights isn’t something you do any-day.

There are countless things to do and see Downtown Austin, which is why it is my favorite place in Austin.

Expository: Pep Rallies

“Ring, Ring, Ring,” the bell seems to ring fast in succession when we have a pep rally… Which in fact it kind of does. Many people hate on pep rallies, but they have their benefits. Pep rallies are indeed , yes I’m going to say it… Fun.

As I walk into class I can already see that the agenda is shorter. The class may not be as short as it seems, but it’s all in the mind. If you’re told the class is shorter, then why complain! An hour at the end of the day may not seem like much, but it adds up.

Walking into a loud gym may not be a pleasure to some, but it can put you in a lighter mood. A pep rally isn’t the woohoo-I’m-having-the-time-of-my-life fun. The I’m-having-a-good-time-talking-and-relaxing kind of fun better describes it, which I like as well. During a pep rally there is time to talk and laugh with your friends.

There is always a good in what may seem boring. Next time you’re about to say, “Ughhhh” about a pep rally, think about the plus side. Pep rallies are a school’s distraction from school.☺️

My Favorite Mistake

“Ummmmm… Is that supposed to happen?” I nervously asked my dad as my eyes flicked back and forth from my dad and the Chickfila currently engulfed in flames. Probably a better question to ask is, “why is that happening?” Even better, get the blazing sandwich out of the microwave, which let me tell you I was not going to do. My dad quickly grabbed the Chickfila bag from the side that isn’t up in smoke. For some magical reason unknown when my precious food was taken out of the microwave the fire vanquished.

“Beep, beep, beep!” The smoke alarm alerted us right on time… Not! The pungent smell filled the air, the chicken did almost nothing to diminish the smell. Half the bag was charred, but when taken out the bag there where no casualties in the food. “Mmmmmm…” Actually the chicken was crispy, just how I like it.

Looking back I gained more than crispy chicken from my mistake. Now I know just because something looks heatproof doesn’t mean it is, the foil was prey to keep the heat in, it NEVER goes in the microwave. This can also serve a broad lesson, don’t assume things purely from sight.

What Students Need To Be Psychologically Healthy

Success is the key
But what is the key to success?
For a student this is many different things
Not just the necessities of food, water, and shelter.

Number one: friends would help
Somewhere to store your secrets
A friend is someone you can rely on,
Having a Someone who will help you get through a bad day.

Number Two: A way to relieve stress
Finding a way to relieve all the stress homework is putting on you ,
Discover a hobby, watch your favorite show.
There is a key to make sure this helps, not makes things worse
Make a schedule,
This way you will have time to accomplish your work.
And the things that make you happy.

Number three, be confident in yourself
Don’t put yourself around people that make you feel bad
Shocker: your friends have to actually like you
Do your best and don’t have regrets.

Last but not least….
Smile!
