Week 2: Some Time Outside In Austin

on March 25, 2014

From a trail by the lake, to swimming in a natural spring, shopping amongst skyscrapers, visiting a nature center, or playing in a park…Downtown Austin has it all. Downtown Austin is my favorite outdoor place in Austin, because it has it all.

Sixty eight degrees year round seems chilly, but in the summer Barton Springs is the best place to cool off. A natural spring above Edwards Aquifer is the scientific part of Barton springs, but what really makes so unique goes so much further. My favorite part of Barton Springs is that it is filled with fish! When a kid lets out an excited yelp, swim on over, they probably caught one of the many various fish that call Barton Springs home. Barton springs is a unique place that you cannot miss if you come to Austin.

A trail that can be pursued through land or water—that’s Lady Bird Lake! Over ten miles of flat terrain that can be walked, biked, or run. Lady Bird Lake trail is right by, what other than… Lady Bird Lake! So if you ever get hot while on the trail just stop by one of the many canoe or kayak rentals, and finish the day on the water! I love the Lady Bird Lake Trail because of its beautiful nature and versatility.

Downtown Austin also has Zilker Park, home to the kite festival. The Nature and Science center, also an attraction of Austin, is where injured animals can find a new home and provide a learning experience for us (humans). Then there is Downtown itself, taking a stroll amongst skyscrapers at breathtaking heights isn’t something you do any-day.

There are countless things to do and see Downtown Austin, which is why it is my favorite place in Austin.
